about

The book explores a conversation between dance and its environment; social, cultural and ecological.Through documenting different creative actions of the Contact Improvisation community on Koh Phangan, Sharing Ground unfolds the relationship between the island and the dancing bodies who visit it.We explore this topic through photography of performances, interviews with locals, and poetry written on the island.Dancers were invited to collect conversations with locals from the area, mapping different lived realities and discovering stories that are beautiful, critical and confronting.

The Wider ProjectAfter visiting Koh Phangan for several years to study dance, I continuously sensed a missing link between the listening we practice on the dance floor and the lack of interaction with our context. I wanted to do an experiment, questioning "what if we found new pathways to meet this place?"That experiment became Sharing Ground [2026] — a collaborative action that gathered funding and made possible: scholarships for Thai dancers, a series of performances with invited Thai artists, and this co-created publication, including local stories collected by dancers visiting the island.
